Dig Day 16-17 June 2007
The June dig day was pretty much washed out.
After a very wet night, the day dawned damp and grey.
After a miscommunication, a few hardy souls turned out on both the Saturday and the Sunday
to spend a few hours chipping away at rock and tidying up track sections above “the chute”.
Sunday was spent digging a short section along the perimeter track. It’s great to see the club
members not letting the weather get the better of them.

Dig Day 19 May 2007
We had a fantastic turnout for the dig day - 21 people turned up and some
great progress was made. Further digging was done on the Chicken Run with
the exciting discovery of a mining cave being made to add further interest to the
track.
Check out the article
about Gold in McQueens Valley.
Substantial progress was made on the climbing track, with an
awesome corner being carved out of the hillside and the majority of the work done
on the second switchback.
We had 2 guys from Timaru turned up
at 8.30am! Its great to see that word is getting around from outside of
Christchurch. This was my first time at Haven and I was surprised by the size of the property,
and the views are awesome. It was good to finally meet some of the Club members
too and chat over lunch. I’ll definitely be back for more track building days.
Overall it was a very productive day, see you all out there next month!

Dig Day 15th April 2007
Well a mediocre looking day weather wise but it sure beats
working in the hot hot sun that we've had over the past few dig days! We had 9 people
out with their tools on C1 and Chicken Run.
Some tidy up work was done on Chicken Run. Allister
has done a great job on a tricky corner. The section of C1 from
the corner with Chicken Run along to the big berm was attacked: benching a platform,
collecting rocks, and cutting away broom.
Work was also started on building a bypass track around the big berm of doom!

Dig Day 3rd March 2007
This “in-between” dig day was introduced as we are making
such good progress it seems a shame to limit it to once a month while the weather
is so good. A team of 7 split up into 3 groups with work being done on both the
Chicken Run and on the next section of the climbing track - C1.
Again, we were blessed (?) with another hot day and in a few short hours the main
2 groups managed to bench a further at least 20-30 metres each (same person here
who can’t accurately determine distance – don’t let me parallel park your car!!),
while the third part of the crew worked on a rocky slippery area with some stabilization
and line cutting. Another awesome effort by all...

Dig Day 18th February 2007
9 club members turned out on this scorching day to work
on the tracks. The majority of work was concentrating on the Chicken Run, tidying
up some tricky areas and lengthening the benched track. We also had a wood pigeon
or two come round to watch what we were doing.
In temperatures over 30 degrees in the sun, the crew did a fantastic job. As I have
little concept of distance, I won’t try to say how many more metres were added to
the track, but it was impressive and I’m sure that everyone worked off a few pounds
out in the heat. Very worthwhile all round!

Dig Day 20th January 2007
Nine braved the weather and came out for a dig and much was accomplished.
We welcomed Peter, Anja and Robyn who came out for the first time and joined the usual
suspects.
The rain and drizzle didn't deter the team as the club continued work on the
Chicken Run and started benching on C1 (the first climbing track). We completed the first berm, which included finding, moving and then building
with a huge number of rocks. We only had two missiles roll down the hill, so great work.
We look forward to summer loving track building sessions soon.
Here's a view of Chicken Run and C1 from the other side of the valley.
